She invited me to her wedding, I couldn't say 'No.' |
As a birthday gift to myself I literally traveled half way around the world to meet friends I'd initially encountered on the internet in the last century. Apparently it takes a special type of people to do this. Considering few people have friendships that last five years, let alone a decade; two decades are practically out of the question. Somehow this doesn't seem strange to me, nor to the people I came to meet.
I won't go into the whole system, just know and understand that this was meant to happen and that I really feel like I belong on this side of the planet, at least for part of the year. The magic has been happening since before I got here and it doesn't hurt that both of my long-time internet friends have instantly become the real friends we would've been had we lived closer to each other.
Once I imagined myself spending a significant part of my year in Singapore and Malaysia, I think this visit, my first ever, has made the image even more powerful.
There are a few more elements to this unfolding journey that may or may not fall into place, but it's not my job to put the puzzle together, it's simply up to me to imagine the complete picture and allow the pieces to fit themselves into place.
