I don't know what to call this entry so Eating it is; because it's about eating and body weight; mine specifically, over the last several weeks.
For the last two or maybe three weeks my weights been over 180 lbs. and over 15.5% body fat. To me, that is the red zone. I have been doing most practices the same... until the thought came to me that maybe I wasn't eating enough. This thought may have come via a friend of mine who is pursuing a ketogenic diet/lifetstyle; in any case I decided to pick up some turkey burgers. Every time I eat turkey burgers I lose fat and gain muscle* (*according to my scale). Next time around I figured I'd have two turkey burgers, which i know from counting calories is 39 grams of protein. The next day, which is today I experienced a radical drop in weight of 3 lbs.. Weight dropped under 180 and body fat dropped to 14.9% (26.6 lbs of fat, from nearly 30 lbs earlier this week.) So, maybe I'm on to something.
Earlier this week I started weighing myself before bed as well as after my morning workout, just to see the difference. I discovered that over night I was losing weight, but it was muscle weight! Gasp! When I asked myself why, I realized I'm probably no feeding my muscles enough protein. That made me wonder if I had not been feeding my muscles enough for the past year and a half - which is why I stay around the 78 - 80 lbs muscle mass point.
So, today I went out and bought some more protein.. chicken, from a market my mother and sister recommend as having "good" chicken. Already bought two boxes of turkey burgers and will eat my burgers two at a time, especially after workouts.
I'm about to move from BBC5 to the sixth season of Bajai Bootcamp and perhaps with this new knowledge/realization, I'll be able to shred fat through this summer and actually add 2 - 5 lbs of muscle to my frame. That would put me up around 4:1 ratio, and I think I can live with that.
Just a note - a big deal for me... I was able to jump myself up over a pull up bar in the park today. It's the first time I've been able to do that in many, many years.
Score!!
